Goodbye Maldives, Hello Chickenpox…

By December 22, 2016 One Comment

I’ve been picturing the crystal-clear waters of Maldives, and dreaming of lounging in their overwater villas for months. I’ve partnered with several brands for my upcoming Maldives trip and looking forward to riding on a seaplane overlooking the atolls. I was so excited to be showcasing the beautiful nature in Maldives and adding another country on my list.

As soon as this post is published, I should be getting my toes digging in the soft sand, my shoulders burnt from the Maldivian sun.

All this came to naught when I contracted chickenpox………………… Chickenpox at 23?! This is absurd. Cried days over it. With less than a week to my trip, I knew it was impossible for me to fully recover by then, especially not when the blisters are in clusters on my face, chest and back.

I’ve got blisters on my sole, in my throat, and even down there. Swallowing food is hard, and I barely finish a quarter of my usual meal size. I hate going to the loo, but I hate showering even more.

I thought I could spend the remaining few free days working on my blog, brainstorming ideas and learning about video-making, but I couldn’t bring myself to. In between waking, I find myself filling my tummy just so I can get the medicine down, and then going to bed again, if only to forget how awful reality is. I don’t understand why God would want to play tricks on me like that.

It is not the fact that I’m disfigured that gets me most, but how close I was to getting my dream holiday to the Maldives come true.

For now, it is goodbye Maldives, hello to hell with you chickenpox.
