Flores itself covers 13,540 km², spanning the entire area from the Komodo Island to Lembata Island.
During my trip to Labuan Bajo in April 2017, I was part of a 3D2N tour on board a Phinisi boat. I thus spent my nights living on board the boat. It was quite an experience, and something you can only get from booking private tours like these!
It’s a great option if you don’t want to base yourself in Labuan Bajo and prefer to venture further around the Flores region.

LUXURY HOTELS in Labuan Bajo
1. Luwansa Beach Resort, Labuan Bajo (from USD45)
For a quiet location, you get direct access to the beach, though the sea water and beach are often littered with debris, making it unable to swim.
Luwansa Beach Resort offers free pickup service to and from the city centre, airport or any other place you request.
Rooms are large. The only thing is, Wi-Fi does not reach the rooms; it is available only in the hotel lobby.
2. Laprima Hotel, Labuan Bajo (from USD49)
A 15-minute drive from Komodo Airport and a 30-minute drive from Pink Beach Dive Spot, it is convenient to get to and from the airport and jetty.
Laprima Hotel rooms boast views of the Flores sea.
Their swimming pool and the garden are much loved by guests who’ve visited.
3. Sylvia Hotel and Resort, Labuan Bajo (from USD49)
Sylvia Hotel and Resort has its own private beach. Even better, their own privately grown coral reef that’s more than 50 meters in width!
Guests love the swimming pool and range of water activities available, such as kayaking.
The view of sunset by the beach is also spectacular.
Sylvia Hotel and Resort is located 3 km away from the city centre; about 10 minutes drive to town.
4. The Jayakarta Suite Komodo Flores (from USD54)
Fancy a Labuan Bajo accommodation surrounded by tropical hill scenery and stunning sunset views?
There are in-house massage treatments and a dive club offering programs within The Jayakarta Suite Komodo Flores. Excursions can also be arranged to the Pink Beach dive spot and Komodo Island.
5. Puri Sari Beach Hotel, Labuan Bajo (from USD53)
While Puri Sari Beach Hotel is located outside the centre of town, they offer complimentary shuttles that drop you off and pick you up from the city and/or the airport.
Their beach, garden and swimming pool are commended for the cleanliness, though the bay is not the cleanest, so it is not advisable to swim in the sea.
Their rooms are spacious and their service staff are consistently exemplary. Possibly the best hotel in Labuan Bajo? These options are all really enticing, I must say.
MID-RANGE HOTELS in Labuan Bajo
6. Le Pirate Island
Wait a minute. Is this a room? A hut? A treehouse? It is a bed on a beach for sure, covered by straw roofs. You get your own personal sun deck, but little privacy, so you can’t do your hanky panky on your bed.
Still, if you’re looking for accommodation in Labuan Bajo, might as well do it the unique way!
7. Sunset Hill Hotel, Labuan Bajo (from USD33)
Sunset Hill is popular for its stunning, killer views from the hotel – you can literally see the sunset from your bed!
While it is far from town, the hotel makes up for its space – you can get spacious rooms for the price you pay.
Breakfast served can be considered expensive for the quality.
As with most of Labuan Bajo and Flores, Wi-Fi can be patchy at times.
8. Matahari Hotel, Labuan Bajo (from USD33)
Matahari Hotel’s location in the city centre makes it a popular choice for most travellers.
Rooms are well-furnished, clean and spacious.
Wi-Fi is not present in the room, only in the restaurant.
While breakfast is provided, it is rather sub-standard.
BUDGET HOTELS in Labuan Bajo
9. Green Hill Boutique Hotel, Labuan Bajo (from USD28)
As the hotel name suggests, Green Hill Boutique Hotel is located on a hill overlooking the port. Most of the rooms have a porch or veranda from where you can enjoy the sunset in relaxation every evening.
This is one of the best budget hotels in Labuan Bajo. Situated in the centre of town, most notably close to dive shops, it’s perfect for travellers here to dive.
They offer a welcome drink and towel on arrival – a consoling respite from the tropical summer heat and humidity.
Don’t be alarmed if you’re awakened by the blaring sounds from the mosque at 4am on most nights – it is almost a ritual for all guests staying here.
Wi-Fi is also sometimes intermittent.
10. Gardena Hotel, Labuan Bajo (from USD14)
Gardena Hotel offers basic rooms and bathrooms for the price you pay. As an added bonus, you are awarded a nice view of the sunset.
While it is located near the main street, you can still get your slice of calm away from the bustle of the city centre.
The hotel serves commendable breakfast with their selection of pancakes and local food.
BACKPACKER HOSTELS in Labuan Bajo
11. Bajo Nature Backpackers, Labuan Bajo (from USD6)
Great, convenient location in town.
Cozy enough beds for a backpacker hostel standard. Curtains provide each guests with privacy. There is also a private locker next to every bed.
There are also sufficient toilets and showers in the backpacker hostel so you never have to queue when you need the bathroom.
Be prepared to sleep with little or no air-con because of the large room and minimal air-con unit.
Wi-Fi may also be sketchy at times.
The noise from the nearby mosque is unescapable – even the heaviest of sleepers may be roused at 4am.
