Whenever we think of the Central Business District, a busy slew of workaholics come to mind. The idea of a restful holiday in the Central Business District of Singapore may seem oxymoronic, but Far East Hospitality has made this a reality with Oasia Hotel Novena.
Similar to the Oasia Hotel Downtown, Oasia Hotel Novena has subtly but surely reflected their three wellness pillars – Refresh, Recharge and Refuel – into their design elements and guest offers.
There are two main room distinctions at Oasia Hotel Novena – club and non-club rooms. Club Guests have access to exclusive privileges, such as the club lounge, which we pampered ourselves with very much.
Checking in to Oasia Hotel Novena
Stepping out of the lift and into the lobby of Oasia Hotel Novena, you’d notice that the lift lobby is made up of stone structures, which I later found out that they were taken from a quarry in Thailand.
The reception is also dominated by wooden panels, further accentuating Oasia Hotel Novena’s direction towards nature, zen and wellness.
My heart sank at the thought of the long wait when I saw the long line at the check-in counter. Little did we know, as a club guest, we get a separate check in counter on the 22nd floor for express check in!
Upon reaching the club lounge, The Living Room, the friendly hotel staff immediately took our drink orders, so we could have a drink to sip on while going through the swift check in procedure.
Check-in begins at 2pm and check-out is by 12pm.

The moment I stepped into our Club Room, I was immediately drawn to the full-length windows that let in plenty of natural light. I liked that the natural light lit up the room and made the room feel more alive, unlike some hotel rooms with no windows that can sometimes make you feel slightly suffocating.
Japanese interior design firm Super Potato’s nature-inspired design elements are palpable in their Club Rooms, with earthy colours that dominate. Furniture was in a soft brown colour, and their marble flooring was covered with a nude-coloured rug.
As our room was situated on the 24th floor, we were treated to a panoramic view of Novena. What I enjoyed the most was being able to sit by the ledge beside the huge windows and have the world at my feet, literally. To think I could even suntan in a comfortable air-conditioned room!
That aside, the Club Room is fitted with the usual amenities – a 46-inch LED television with Cable TV Channels, high-speed internet, in-room safe box, bathrobes and hairdryer.
What sets the Club rooms apart from the non-Club rooms are the bathtub, complimentary Nespresso coffee-making facilities, a selection of TWG tea to choose from, Perrier sparkling water as well as coconut water. Indeed, they have lived up to their motto of being the hotel to help guests “Refresh, Recharge and Refuel”!
The bathroom features a rain shower and a bathtub, along with premium bath amenities from Biology.
I was looking forward to soak my fatigue away in the bathtub, but to my disappointment, the drainage system was not working. Good thing the rain shower was a good and refreshing substitute.
It was a bummer that the speakers weren’t working as well, unlike the last time I blasted music while soaking in the bathtub at their sister property, Oasia Hotel Downtown.
It could be that this property is the older sister of the other – Oasia Hotel Downtown – that we found a couple of wear and tear, such as the slow drainage from the sink, the weak toilet flush, the desk lamp that didn’t light up, and the lightbulb above our headboard that was blown.
Oasia Hotel Novena’s Amenities
The Living Room
With only 100 Club Rooms and 4 Club Suites, club guests get exclusive access to club lounge, The Living Room and pool facilities on Level 22.
Complimentary breakfast, evening cocktails from 6pm to 8pm, all-day refreshments and barista-served coffee are served at this club lounge. As part of their health and wellness concept, mint water and fruits are served all day at the Club Lounge.
The Living Room is truly a sight to behold. Designed by Japanese interior design firm Super Potato, the use of wood and stone are palpable when you walk around the premise, exuding a sense of nature and calmness for guests who spend their time here. Other notable projects they have dabbled in include the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of natural light. The lounge is decorated with wood, glass and brightly coloured furniture, with dark wooden beans that seem to hold the ceiling up, giving the lounge a vibrant and lively feel.
One unique feature we noticed is how The Living Room’s lights are made up of glass cups and wine glasses! Who would have thought to use these tableware as lighting?
The view from the 22nd floor overlooks Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Beyond that, you can even spot Bukit Timah from this high vantage point.
Did I mention that the pool on Level 22 is an outdoor, sheltered infinity pool?
Located at Level 8, The Oasis is an open-air, alfresco-seating lounge, offering hotel guests, especially corporate guests, a space to conduct meetings in an open air, sheltered space, surrounded by greens.
The 24-hour gym, sauna and steam room, as well as a 20-meter lap pool and Jacuzzi are also found on this level.
Set within a garden environment, it was a pity that the pool and Jacuzzi was closed off when we went, otherwise our experience would have been even more memorable lounging in the heated Jacuzzi which overlook the nearby condominium.
Dining at Oasia Hotel Novena
The Marmalade Pantry
We were delighted to have The Marmalade Pantry host us for High Tea. The modern bistro can be found on the ground floor of Oasia Hotel Novena, right next to the check-in counter.
Available from 3pm to 6pm daily, the standard high tea set ($38) is meant for two, and comes with two cupcakes of your choice and either a cup of tea or coffee.
We were spoilt for choice as there are 11 cupcake flavours to choose from! Eventually, we chose the Hazel (hazelnut) cupcake, Smores cupcake, Limonata (lemon) cupcake and Bananarama (banana walnut) cupcake.
The cupcakes had a crumbly cake-like consistency, and is generously topped with frosting.
On top of that, we were served 2 tiers worth of assorted pastries, high tea style, with the last tier being a range of spreads. In that time, we overloaded ourselves with carbohydrates with the generous portions of sandwiches and scones, which became too much for us eventually.
As we were celebrating my mum’s birthday, we were even treated to a whole Red Velvet cake, which consists of interlacing layers of cake and sweetened cream cheese, and topped with more cream cheese.
For those who dislike crowds, The Marmalade Pantry is rather empty during high tea hours, providing a cosy and intimate environment for you and your loved ones, or even with a bunch of friends.
Buffet Breakfast: (Mon–Sun) 6.30am to 10.30am

The Living Room
Apart from my extremely cosy room, The Living Room is my next favourite place in Oasia Hotel Novena. As a huge coffee lover, I went against my better instincts and had a grand total of three cups of coffee during my stay – because the coffee was just that good! All the staff at Oasia Hotel Novena are barista-trained, and they use Oriole beans, which explains why any variation of the coffee they offer tastes equally excellent!
Apart from the excellent exquisite food and drinks served at The Living Room, what warmed my heart was the hospitality I received from the hotel staff. They always greeted me with huge smiles and constantly checked on me to see if I needed anything else.
All until I checked out and remained at The Living Room to complete some work, when I noticed a slight difference in their attitude, as if I wasn’t welcome anymore.
Oasia Hotel Novena’s Location
Exploring the neighbourhood with our Gaston Luga bags!
While “convenient” is an oft (or sometimes overused) word to describe a hotel’s location, Oasia Hotel Novena defines “convenient” by having an underground link way that links up Novena MRT station directly to the reception level of Oasia Hotel Novena.
Shopping malls such as Velocity @ Novena Square, Square 2 and United Square are all within walking distance from the hotel. If you want to hit Singapore’s shopping paradise, Orchard Road, it’s easily a few train stations away.
A convenient choice for corporate travellers working in the area, since Hotel Novena is within the Central Business District, it is a popular choice for corporates. Thus, room occupancy is mostly filled up on weekdays. The added privilege of The Living Room that distinguishes club guest from non-club guest offers an additional space for doing work, which may be valued for those seeking privacy. Bask in the man-made nature elements as you power through your day at Oasia Hotel Novena!
Special thanks to Oasia Hotel Novena for making this stay possible! All opinions remain my own.
