SEO Success Story – Girl About The Globe

By 14 May 2022 November 27th, 2024 No Comments

If I never delved into the world of educating SEO to other fellow bloggers, I’d have never met kindred bloggers whom I’d connect so well with!

Lisa, owner of Girl about the Globe, is incredible. She’s visited 140 countries, of which 108 have been done solo! On a call with her, she was battling a power outage and shady safety concerns in Uganda, yet they did not seem to derail her on her mission to travel solo and empower more women to do so.

As a student of Skyrocket With SEO course and a longtime travel blogger, she’s had numerous successes in her blogging journey. Let’s hear about some of them!

What is your blog about?

Girl about the Globe is a conscious travel blog, empowering women to travel solo and helping vulnerable girls about the globe.

When did you start your blog?

It started as an eblogger site in 2012. At the time I was documenting whether there was life after divorce. I then switched to WordPress in 2014 and created destination guides and help and advice for solo female travel.

What is the goal of your blog?

To show women that if I can travel solo, anyone can. My aim is to create 100,000 conscious travellers by the year 2025 and to have impacted the lives of 100,000 vulnerable girls around the globe.

What did you use to struggle with on your blog before taking the Skyrocket With SEO course?

Knowing what to do. I had taken another course and didn’t really understand it fully so although I had invested hours, I wasn’t sure if I had actually been doing the right things as I wasn’t seeing any improvement.

I didn’t resonate with the other teacher and often felt as though I was missing vital information when watching the videos. I struggled on understanding what I was actually doing fully and why I was doing it.

What prompted you to decide to invest in the Skyrocket With SEO course?

I signed up to Isabel’s email newsletter and received your free 5-Day Post Re-Optimization Challenge. I really resonated with her communication style and felt as though she explained everything well.

I’m not very techy so she made it easy to understand. And I knew that she is in the travel blogging genre and that if she had the results, I could aspire to that too!

What results have you seen since working on the course?

After changing my meta descriptions, I saw a change in the number of clicks. My traffic has increased from 45,000 page views in December 2021 to 93,000 in April 2022.

Less than 6 months.

This also means that my advertising revenue from Mediavine has increased from $1000 to $1650 a month.

Sometimes it doesn’t feel like I’m making a difference on a blog but when I see an increase in traffic it gives me that encouragement to keep working on it.

How has the course changed your blogging strategy?

Even though I write about solo travel, I was being too generic with my keywords such as ‘things to do in Spain’ etc instead of ‘things to do alone in Spain.’

It has taught me to think about the intention for each piece of content and at what stage the reader is at when searching for the topic. Whether it’s inspirational, instructional or transactional and the gaps that I have in my content plan.

Biggest takeaway from taking the course?

Being able to see my blog from a business perspective. Being a writer I am so used to working in my business instead of on it so I needed a course to help me understand what actual actions to take.

It showed me how to track and what to track and some of the actions were so simple too such as identifying the outbound links and changing them to affiliate ones instead.

What would you say to someone on the fence about taking the course?

Do it! I have only finished the first section of the course and it has proven invaluable so far. I get overwhelmed easily and what I really love about the course is that it drip feeds you so that you won’t skip sections or go rushing ahead by watching the course and not taking action.
