Visiting Bangkok is one of the best choices for a short visit, a long holiday or even a good flight hub for connecting to other Asia countries from Europe or America.
It’s the place where you can enjoy shopping, relax with Thai massage, travel around in the old city where it’s full of historic and cultural places and tantalize your taste buds with everything from world-class restaurants to local street foods. Honestly, you’ll probably want to start learning Thai now because you are never going to want to leave once you’ve seen what Bangkok has to offer.
As such, I have a local expert, Hansa, to tell you more about her hometown!

According to the 7th Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index (CGDI), Bangkok was ranked as the number one global destination city for international overnight visitors.
However, Bangkok has its bad reputation as one of the world’s most congested cities, with terrible traffic problems.
Luckily, alternative transportations such as the BTS, MRT or the express boat along Chao Phraya river has sprouted up over recent years to help you get around the city quickly and efficiently.

Best Places To Stay In Bangkok
If it’s your first time in Bangkok, I highly recommend the hotels near the BTS Sky train or MRT line as they’re the most convenient.
Regardless of whether you’re here on a 2-day trip or a weeklong trip, here are my recommended hotels in Bangkok according to each Bangkok neighborhood for your choosing!
Bangkok Hotels near Siam
The Siam Square is the busiest BTS station since it is the point of connection between the Silom line and the Sukhumvit line.
This will take you to Chatuchak weekend market, Saphan Taksin station, the hub of the express boats on the Chao Phraya River to the old city for the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and Khao San Road.
Siam Square is one of the best areas to stay in Bangkok for shopping, since it is surrounded by famous shopping centers i.e. Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, Central World, MBK, Tokyu, and other fashionable clothes and accessories along Siam Square’s small alleys.
It is also only one stop away from the National Stadium BTS station, where you can walk to Jim Thompson’s house.
These hotels are near Siam BTS station.
Siam Kempinski Hotel (from USD 231)
A 5-star resort among the city’s premier shopping and entertainment district. With the reputable “Kempinski” brand, no doubt it is one of the best hotels in Bangkok Thailand. You can always count on its high-end services and facilities such as kids club, limousine service, business center, and world-class restaurants and bars.
Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin, the hotel’s modern Thai restaurant, has been awarded a prestigious One Star rating by Michelin. Even though I am Thai, I still think it’s worth paying for the experience of Thai fine dining here. What impresses me most is their creative presentation with a modern interpretation of the food, yet retaining the original Thai taste.
It is located in the Siam Square area where you can access directly to Siam Paragon shopping mall.
Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square Hotel (from USD 121)
This 4-star mid-scale hotel is perfect for business or a family trip. Lok Wah Hin, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant is also one of my favorite places for Dim Sum lunch in Bangkok.
It is located on the opposite side of the Siam Kempinski Hotel and right next to the Sky Train.
Bangkok Hotels near the Airport
If you travel from Suvarnabhumi Airport by Airport Rail link, Ratchathewi is only 1 station away from Phaya Thai BTS station, the connection hub between the BTS and the Airport Rail link line.
Ratchathewi is the nearest station to Platinum Fashion Mall (5-10 minutes walk, but Pratunam Market, Coco Walk (Exit 4) and Shibuya 19 shopping mall.
Chic coffee shops, nightlife entertainment, and neon night markets are also waiting for you to explore by tuk-tuk from your nearby hotels.
No doubt there are a variety of accommodations from 5-star hotels to budget hostels.
Note: Please be advised that this area can become very busy during rush hour.
Bangkok City Hotel (from USD 50)
It is a brand new chic boutique hotel with facilities such as free Wi-Fi, a breakfast buffet, and a swimming pool with Jacuzzi seats for your relaxation.
The hotel is only 10 minutes away by walking from Ratchathewi BTS station. You can get to the hotel by taking exit 3 and walking to the traffic light, then turning left and walking 150 meters to the Bangkok City Hotel.
Asia Hotel Bangkok (from USD 54)
One of the most famous hotels in Bangkok since 1966. Asia Hotel has another branch in Pattaya, Chonburi province. There is a free shuttle bus service between Bangkok and Pattaya available daily. If your trip destination includes Bangkok and Pattaya, Asia Hotel is your best bet.
The location is excellent since Ratchathewi BTS station is just in front of the hotel. You can take exit 1 to reach the hotel directly.
VIE Hotel Bangkok, MGallery by Sofitel (from USD 133)
A 5-star hotel in the Ratchathewi area which is just opposite Asia Hotel Bangkok. Rooms are decorated with beautiful silk from Jim Thompson, making it one of the best hotels in Bangkok, Thailand to stay in. Worktables are large and convenient for your business trips in Bangkok with free min-bar service. You can enjoy an in-room bathtub with VIE’s bath amenities to refresh yourself from Bangkok’s hot weather after a long journey.
You can reach the hotel easily from exit 2 of Ratchathewi BTS station.
Hotel de Bangkok (from USD 66)
Hotel De Bangkok is a 3-star budget boutique hotel in Bangkok’s downtown where the noise from the traffic is cut off because of its strategic location, being in a sub-street only 16 meters away from the main road. Free high-speed Wi-Fi and a breakfast buffet are included.
It is located on Ratchaprarop Road and is just only 10 minutes away from Platinum Fashion Mall on foot. If you come from Suvarnabhumi Airport by the Airport rail link, you can just drop at Ratchaprarop station without the need to change trains to the BTS line.
Bangkok Hotels near Sukhumvit
There are more than 10 stations along the Sukhumvit BTS line, making Sukhumvit a popular and well-known neighborhood among tourists. It is the place I describe as “East meets West.” This makes it one of the best areas to stay in Bangkok.
You can find local street food, the Arabian Alley in Soi Nana (Nana Station), Japanese town on Soi Sukhumvit 33/1 (Phrom Phong station), Korean Town at Sukhumvit Plaza (Asoke Station), and the most stylish, chic and cool area on Soi Thong Lor (Thong Lor Station) and Soi Ekaamai (Ekkamai station.
At night, you can also enjoy shopping at Soi Nana and engage in one of the many nights of entertainment from Soi Nana to Soi Ekkamai.
There are also prime shopping centers such as Central Embassy (Chit Lom station), Emquatie and Emporium (Phrom Phong station), and Ekkamai Gateway (Ekkamai station), a Japanese-style shopping mall with a farmer market on the weekend.
It is also just a stone’s throw from Ekkamai Bus Terminal, the gateway to the east of Thailand such as Pattaya, Rayong, Koh Samed, and Koh Chang.
Asoke Station
Asoke junction is the worst traffic in Bangkok in my opinion. However, it is the best location for traveling around, since it is where the BTS and MRT meet.
Terminal 21 shopping mall is located at Asoke junction. Its international food court has a reputation, as is toilet-hopping, a queer but fun activity for tourists within the mall.
It is surrounded by hotels from 5-star hotels to budget hotels.
Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, A Luxury Collection Hotel (from USD 158)
A 5-star luxury hotel located on the opposite side of Terminal 21. The room is luxuriously spacious, with the shower and bathtub in separate areas. The hotel’s swimming pool is a whirlpool and decorated in Bali garden style, where you can refresh yourself and escape away from the noisy downtown Bangkok.
Grande Centre Point Hotel Terminal 21 (from USD 102)
Another popular 5-star hotel on the same side of Terminal 21 shopping mall in downtown Bangkok. The swimming pool is large with panoramic views over Asoke Montri Road.
There is a connecting path from BTS station to the hotel.
The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok (from USD 212)
Located on Sukhumvit Road and just beside Grande Centre Point Hotel Terminal 21, it is perfect for business travelers who want to stay in downtown Bangkok. The meeting room is ideal for conferences and grand affairs. In the evening, you can enjoy the outdoor swimming pool to refresh yourself from the hectic day while watching the city light up from above.
Bangkok Hotels near Surasak
Surasak BTS station is located on Sathorn Road, Bangkok’s financial district, and is paralleled by Silom Road. During the weekday and working hours, Sathorn and Silom Road are very busy and chaotic.
However, it is a relaxing neighborhood to chill out and enjoy your Sunday brunch in chic coffee shops in small alleys.
Not Just Another Cup and Luka are my favorite places for Sunday brunch and specialty coffee.
Moreover, it is only one station away from Saphan Taksin station, where you can take the express boat to the old city.
Around Saphan Taksin station, there is plenty of nice local food for you to try. For example, “Kah Moo Trok Soong” or pork knuckle rice, Joke Prince (24-hour pork congee), and Bann Pad Thai, a Michelin Guide restaurant in Bangkok.
Eastin Grand Hotel (from USD 113)
The room is cosy and clean with a panoramic city view. Their infinity swimming pool offers sweeping city views and is one of the hotel’s attractions.
Located on Sathorn Road, you can reach the hotel by Surasak BTS station, exit 4. There is a walkway that connects directly between the hotel and the station, allowing you to escape from the rain or sun.
These are my recommended hotels in Bangkok that you may use as a guideline for you to plan a visit in Bangkok.
“I would like to express my Thai point of view to people around the world.”
