In a world plagued by COVID-19, vacations are now a rarity and staycations are the new normal. Hotels are also constantly innovating to bring about one-of-a-kind staycation experiences for their guests.
This was why I was immediately intrigued when I saw that M Social Hotel Singapore was offering an Art Jamming Staycation package.
Beasts & Butterflies has separate brunch, lunch and dinner menus, serving up dishes that seamlessly meld influences from East and West, truly showing how Modern Asian cuisine is done

M Social Singapore’s Location
Located along the historic and picturesque Singapore River, M Social overlooks Robertson Quay and is situated amongst many great restaurants. We decided to have dinner at Jypsy, a modern Japanese fusion restaurant located right opposite the hotel, to conclude a fun-filled day.
That said, the hotel’s location requires quite a bit of walk if you’re coming by MRT. The nearest MRT station is Fort Canning MRT, which is about a 15-minute walk.
All in all, the staycation at M Social was pleasant; the staff were nice and friendly, and the room was well-equipped, perfect for a quick getaway from the daily grind.
Perhaps my only gripe – and personal preference – was that the pillows were square-shaped, which I felt was slightly weird and could not get used to that.
Amidst the global pandemic, I applaud the hotel’s effort in innovating and coming up with various staycation packages to attract guests to stay with them.
The Art Jamming Staycation package is priced from $220++ onwards, and is inclusive of breakfast for 2, as well as a complimentary snack time at Beast and Butterflies after the art jamming session. It also comes with 2x DIY art jamming kits

Dining at M Social Singapore
The art jamming staycation package came with breakfast for two, served at M Social’s Beast & Butterflies. The free-flow buffet breakfast came with a choice of three cuisines – Continental, American and Local.
I picked the American breakfast because I can never resist a fluffy scrambled egg on toast. My partner went ahead and ordered both the American breakfast and Local breakfast featuring good ol’ kaya toast and soft boiled eggs.
Breakfast portions were just right for a small eater like me, but for those who can stomach a feast early in the morning, do go ahead and order more than one set. No one is judging!

M Social also has AURA, the automated room service robot which elevates the hotel’s room service to the next level and delivers whatever guests need straight to their doorstep. I believe many of us would appreciate this non-contact service especially in the climate of a pandemic!

Upon check-in, we were told by the staff to head down to the hotel lobby for the art jamming session before we were ushered to the hotel’s event space, MySpace, for the activity.
I’ll be honest – I was initially apprehensive about the art jamming session as I’m sadly not artistically-inclined.
However, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the process was and how much fun I had. The art jamming kit comes with a choice of a T-shirt or a tote bag, painting materials (i.e. fabric paint, paint brushes, palette), and lo and behold – STENCILS. Perfect for those of us who are not artistically blessed.
I picked the cute unicorn stencil and my partner picked the adorable ghost, and we went to town. I was immediately reminded of my childhood where I took art classes and it brought back some lovely memories.
The session lasted 2 hours and came with a choice of snacks, as well as fruit juices or coffee. The hotel staff periodically checked in to see if we needed any help. When we were done, she helped us to blow dry our masterpiece and voila! The work is done.

The room was well-equipped with all the necessary features – TV, toiletries, an en suite bathroom equipped with rain shower, a little fridge, a safe, and a small desk for ‘staycationers’ who may for any reason need to work while on a vacation.
M Social Singapore’s Amenities
For fitness junkies, M Social Singapore has a pool and a gym for guests to break out a sweat. While it’s nothing out of the ordinary, I must say the gym is well-equipped. Many Instagrammers also go to the pool to take pictures with the artistic leafy arches in the background.

Instead of a regular staycation – hanging out by the pool, watching Netflix in the room or exploring the vicinity, I thought that the art jamming session is a novel and engaging way to keep guests occupied during the duration of their stays. Not only that, it’s also family-friendly and great for those with little kids!

Check-in begins at 3pm and check-out is by 12pm; early check-in and late check-out options are subject to room availability.
We arrived at the hotel slightly earlier than the 3pm check-in timing, and were greeted by the sight of a long queue. Fortunately, the queue moved pretty quickly and we were all settled in our Alcove Cosy Room in all but 15 minutes.
M Social Singapore’s Room
Thereafter, we retreated back to our Alcove Cosy Room. What stood out the most was the iconic alcove ceiling and full-length windows to let in plenty of natural light. Alcove Cosy features bare concrete walls with mirrored surfaces, which creates the illusion of space and made the room appear bigger.
The foyer also featured quaint arches, which added to the atmosphere of the room. The chic interiors designed by famous French visionary Philippe Starck add to the theatricality and sense of intrigue to the hotel.

The room was well-equipped with all the necessary features – TV, toiletries, an en suite bathroom equipped with rain shower, a little fridge, a safe, and a small desk for ‘staycationers’ who may for any reason need to work while on a vacation.
