There are plenty of things to do around Labuan Bajo, which will give you no shortage of ideas on where to go in Labuan Bajo, including visiting these stunning secret islands.

During my trip to Labuan Bajo in April 2017, I was part of a 3D2N tour on board a Phinisi boat. I thus spent my nights living on board the boat. It was quite an experience, and something you can only get from booking private tours like these!

Having reliable connectivity made the whole trip smoother, and a Indonesia eSIM was perfect for checking routes, coordinating with guides, and keeping in touch while out exploring the islands.

It’s a great option if you don’t want to base yourself in Labuan Bajo and prefer to venture further around the Flores region.

However, if you are looking for recommendations for the best hotels in Labuan Bajo, below you can find some top-rated ones.

While Puri Sari Beach Hotel is located outside the centre of town, they offer complimentary shuttles that drop you off and pick you up from the city and/or the airport.

Their beach, garden and swimming pool are commended for the cleanliness, though the bay is not the cleanest, so it is not advisable to swim in the sea.

Their rooms are spacious and their service staff are consistently exemplary. Possibly the best hotel in Labuan Bajo? These options are all really enticing, I must say.

Wait a minute. Is this a room? A hut? A treehouse? It is a bed on a beach for sure, covered by straw roofs. You get your own personal sun deck, but little privacy, so you can’t do your hanky panky on your bed.

Still, if you’re looking for accommodation in Labuan Bajo, might as well do it the unique way!

7. Sunset Hill Hotel, Labuan Bajo (from USD33)

Sunset Hill is popular for its stunning, killer views from the hotel – you can literally see the sunset from your bed!

While it is far from town, the hotel makes up for its space – you can get spacious rooms for the price you pay.

Breakfast served can be considered expensive for the quality.

As with most of Labuan Bajo and Flores, Wi-Fi can be patchy at times.

8. Matahari Hotel, Labuan Bajo (from USD33)

Matahari Hotel’s location in the city centre makes it a popular choice for most travellers.

Rooms are well-furnished, clean and spacious.

Wi-Fi is not present in the room, only in the restaurant.

While breakfast is provided, it is rather sub-standard.

BUDGET HOTELS in Labuan Bajo

As the hotel name suggests, Green Hill Boutique Hotel is located on a hill overlooking the port. Most of the rooms have a porch or veranda from where you can enjoy the sunset in relaxation every evening.

This is one of the best budget hotels in Labuan Bajo. Situated in the centre of town, most notably close to dive shops, it’s perfect for travellers here to dive.

They offer a welcome drink and towel on arrival – a consoling respite from the tropical summer heat and humidity.

Don’t be alarmed if you’re awakened by the blaring sounds from the mosque at 4am on most nights – it is almost a ritual for all guests staying here.

Wi-Fi is also sometimes intermittent.

10. Gardena Hotel, Labuan Bajo (from USD14)

Gardena Hotel offers basic rooms and bathrooms for the price you pay. As an added bonus, you are awarded a nice view of the sunset.

While it is located near the main street, you can still get your slice of calm away from the bustle of the city centre.

The hotel serves commendable breakfast with their selection of pancakes and local food.

BACKPACKER HOSTELS in Labuan Bajo

11. Bajo Nature Backpackers, Labuan Bajo (from USD6)

Great, convenient location in town.

Cozy enough beds for a backpacker hostel standard. Curtains provide each guests with privacy. There is also a private locker next to every bed.

There are also sufficient toilets and showers in the backpacker hostel so you never have to queue when you need the bathroom.

Be prepared to sleep with little or no air-con because of the large room and minimal air-con unit.

Wi-Fi may also be sketchy at times.

The noise from the nearby mosque is unescapable – even the heaviest of sleepers may be roused at 4am.
