The Best Contact Lens for Travel – OLENS Review

By 9 November 2020 September 1st, 2021 No Comments

The eyes are the windows to the soul. For those of us who are myopic, contact lenses are an absolutely must in our travel packing list.

We all know that travel can often be hectic with early mornings and late nights spent on the roads. One of the most unfortunate things that could happen is to look back at photographs of your wonderful adventures, only to see your lifeless and tired-looking eyes staring back at you.

Here’s a pro tip: apart from putting on makeup to make your eyes pop (because let’s be real, ain’t nobody got time to put on a full beat in the midst of travels), put on the OLENS coloured contact lens to instantly brighten and add life into your peepers.

You can thank me later. 😉

How to choose coloured contact lenses

I had been itching to try coloured contact lens for the longest time ever, but like many, I was hesitant as I was afraid that they would look unnatural and creepy. A close friend of mine then recommended OLENS to me – I immediately placed an order, and the rest is history.

Ever since I started using OLENS a year ago, I’ve since tried out their top-sellers – Spanish and Russian ranges, which are both extremely natural looking and adds colour to your eyes, literally.

The lenses are incredibly comfortable and I can wear them for a full working day in an air-conditioned environment without feeling any discomfort.

If you’re someone like me who prefers to stay on the safe side, I’d highly recommend that you try out the Spanish range in the brown colour. Even when I try out other ranges, I typically stick to the brown shades to play on the safe side so as to not appear unnatural-looking. You can’t go wrong with this shade!

If you’re more adventurous and love to push boundaries of your look without going over the top, OLENS also has many ranges that come in shades like blue, green and pink.

The best part – ALL of their lenses blend nicely into your natural eye colour, even the funky shades!

Are daily or monthly lenses better for travelling?

The answer boils down to 2 factors.

  1. Do you have dry eyes?
  2. How many days will you be travelling?

If your answer to question 1 is yes, it’s better to opt for daily lenses as they’re made of a thinner material and are more comfortable to wear for long hours. Another plus point of wearing daily lenses is that you’ll get to pick a different colour and range every single day!

If dry eyes are not a concern of yours, your decision would then depend on the number of days you’ll be travelling for.

Daily lenses can be quite costly if you’re wearing them every single day, hence I’d recommend opting for the monthly lenses if you’re on the road for more than 10 days.

When the Scandi range launched, I had my eyes (haha pun intended) on them and knew that I wanted to try them out on my next OLENS splurge. Scandi is in fact the upgraded version of Spanish and given how much I love the Spanish range, I knew I would adore this range too.

I was so excited when the lovely team at OLENS got in contact with me and sent me the full set of their best-selling range!

It was also through the team that I learned that the members of Kpop idol sensation Blackpink were wearing the Scandi range in the “Ice Cream” music video. No wonder their eyes were so sparkly and alluring.

Similar to Spanish, Scandi has a natural finish and does not have an enlarging effect which I personally prefer as it looks more realistic. You wouldn’t believe how many people asked me about my eye colour and complimented the look!

The good news is, Scandi is available in both daily and monthly lenses. The daily range costs S$34 for a box of 20 and has 3 colours:

  • Scandi Gray
  • Scandi Hazel
  • Scandi Olive

The monthly lenses cost S$29 and have 5 colours to choose from:

  • Scandi Gray
  • Scandi Hazel
  • Scandi Olive
  • Scandi Aqua
  • Scandi Light Gray

Without further ado, let’s jump right into the try on pictures!

In order to showcase the true colours of the lenses, I kept my eye makeup light and simple, and made use of natural lighting (which is the best kind of lighting).

I put on the 3 colours available in the daily range and absolutely fell in love with how it looked!

I have to admit that the grey shade blew me away. I remember trying on a pair of grey lenses in the past and did not like the unnatural, ghostly look, hence I’m always hesitant to try on grey lenses. However, the Scandi Gray blended seamlessly into my original dark brown eye colour for a chic look.

As for the hazel and olive colours, they looked quite similar at first glance, so I put both shades on each eye for a side-by-side comparison. The difference is truly subtle but this just shows how truly natural-looking the Scandi range is!

I can already imagine a pink or orange eyeshadow look that would go so well with Scandi Hazel and Olive.

There are also 2 more colours – Scandi Aqua and Scandi Light Gray – that I didn’t try on as they are both monthly lenses and I didn’t want them to go to waste.

Considering how gorgeous the grey, hazel and olive shades are, I’m so excited to try out the aqua and light grey colours. After all, Blackpink’s Lisa and Jisoo did wear them in their “Ice Cream” music video.
