Regent Taipei, Taiwan – Hotel Review

By 25 August 2023 September 11th, 2023 No Comments

Regent Taipei is the flagship hotel under the Silk Hotel Group (formerly FIH Regent Group), for good reason. As a world-class luxury hotel, Regent Taipei has hosted international celebrities like Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson.

Things that stood out to me were their 24-hour butler service, the plush bedding, the incredible buffet breakfast spread and the luxurious lounge experience.

Location of Regent Taipei

Regent Taipei is located in the Zhongshan district, in central Taipei. It’s connected to Regent Galleria, a luxury mall that’s home to many high-end boutique brands.

Checking into Regent Taipei

Check-in starts at 3pm. Depending on the room booked, guests either check in at the lobby or the Taipan Lounge.

Regent Taipei, Taipei, Taiwan - Hotel Review - Tai Pan Lounge

The VIP treatment starts here– upon arriving, our bags were taken care of right away. We were given refreshing towels and ushered to the Tai Pan lounge.

Upon entering the lounge, we were served with their in-house speciality oolong champagne tea– such a nice non-alcoholic drink!

Tai Pan King Club Room

The Tai Pan King Club Room is situated on the same floor as the Tai Pan Lounge, with exclusive access to the lounge. There are also extra perks like the 24-hour personalized butler services, complimentary 2-hour use of the boardroom, late check-out and even a personalised wake-up call with morning beverage.

Talk about having all your needs taken care of!

The room itself looks slightly dated but still has a classic elegance to it.

In my opinion, this room would be perfect for business travellers. The first thing that caught my eye was the Herman Miller Aeron chair– a classic, well-known for its ergonomics.

Having this chair back at my own home, I can definitely attest to its exceptional lumbar support.

I had such good sleep on this bed, which I later learned is made of the Wellspring mattress, which is temperature-sensing, and even contours to a body’s shape.

The views I had from the floor-to-ceiling windows were incredible. I could even spot the Taipei 101 building in the distance.

There were some welcome fruits along with an ‘Emperor’s Chest’, filled with treats from Jiu Zhen Nan, which specialises in gourmet traditional Chinese Han pastry!

Come nighttime, there were even some chocolates on the side of my bed, a small gesture that really made me feel well-cared for.

The mini fridge is well stocked with complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

The marble-clad bathroom was fairly spacious, with the vanity area taking centerstage, bathtub on one side, and shower and toilet on the other. There’s also a TV in the bathroom.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the toiletries were from Diptyque, a high-end end that uses natural ingredients.

The bathtub is well-sized for a relaxing bath, with even a bath pillow and rubber ducky! The bathtub tray was great for holding my drinks and mobile phone as I soaked after a long day of travelling.

The standing shower was good, with both a wall-mounted and hand-held shower head, something that’s not very common in most hotels. I also love that they’d a Japanese-style bidet.

The wardrobe area is spacious and good for guests staying for multiple days. It’s also equipped with an electronic locker.

Other rooms

I had the chance to check out some of the other rooms, which really were the epitome of luxury travel.

Presidential Suite

This is the suite that international stars like Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson stayed in!

Just a random hotel fun fact– this is where they waved to their adoring fans from, as they gathered at the parade square.

Garden Suite

The garden suite has a private outdoor lounge, where people host parties from. We were told that guests can host private dining services from here!

The Family Balcony Room is equipped with double queen or king beds, as well as a private terrace– great for larger groups or families.

Facilities at Regent Taipei

Tai Pan Lounge

Open all 24 hours, the Tai Pan Lounge is a classy and relaxing lounge, where you can enjoy the views of Taipai 101 from.

There’s an all-day coffee and tea, and also a buffet breakfast and afternoon tea. I was able to check out their collaboration with Curious Table at their afternoon tea service, offering healthy snacks and canapes like smoked duck, prawns and smoked salmon. They were so exquisite looking!

There’s a free flow of Haagen Daaz ice cream and non-alcoholic drinks, with alcoholic drinks available during happy hour.

There are also specially curated cocktails during their happy hour.

I had their Muscat Oriental Beauty, delish!

Kids’ Club

This children’s facility, adoringly named the Fairy Game Room, is really elaborate, with a slide, books, cooking playsets and dollhouses, and look at those giant plushies!

Kids would have such a good time here.

Outdoor pool

There’s a heated rooftop pool, and guests can enjoy the pool cinema from 7pm. It has such a nice ambience at night, and I’d never heard of a pool cinema concept before this. How unique is this?

I wasn’t able to check out the Gym and Spa facilities, but from what I’ve seen so far, I’m sure they’d live up to Regent Taipei’s commitment to high-end, luxurious comfort.

Dining at Regent Taipei

Silks House

I had amazing Cantonese food at Silks House. When the chef came by to say hi, he said that many of the dishes were Gong Fu Cai 功夫菜, which meant that these were dishes that require considerable skill, technique and time to create.

We were able to enjoy this elaborate dinner in the comforts of a private dining room.

Regent Taipei, Taipei, Taiwan - Hotel Review - Silks House

Our menu for the evening featured special soup pairings– there are alcohol and wine pairings, but this was the first time I’d heard of a soup pairing. This was really befitting of a Cantonese restaurant, with the Cantonese being known for their soup dishes.

Being a Cantonese myself, I reckon I’ll be creating my own soup pairing course menu when I head to another Chinese restaurant next time!

As for my favourite dishes, it’s hard to choose, but the soup dishes were definitely on another level, full of complex flavours.

松茸竹笙燉菜膽 Double-Boiled Fish Maw, Chinese Cabbage & Matsutake with Chicken Consommé
清蒸海上鮮 Steamed Fish
鱈蟹西施泡飯 Empress Lobster Stock with King Crab Meat
海派挫冰 Jumbo Taiwanese Shaved Ice

Some of the off-menu items are specially made using the offcuts and leftovers of the fish and duck. You’ll have to specially order them! I’ll definitely recommend the ‘slippery egg’ dish, made with the remains of the steamed fish.

The Jumbo Taiwanese Shaved Ice too need to be ordered beforehand– which I’m not surprised about due to its sheer scale.

I also enjoyed the performative parts of the meal, like slicing the duck and cooking the lobster stock. What a memorable meal!

Buffet breakfast at Brasserie

Breakfast at Brasserie is on the ground level– and be prepared to feast! There’s so much variety, ranging from all types of cuisines like Western, Japanese, Korean and of course Chinese.

Something special was this partnership that Regent has with Michelin Green Star restaurant Little Tree Food 小小树林, which features farm-to-table selections, focused on healthy dining. I enjoyed their acai bowl and detox juice.

You can even make your own Taiwanese rice bowl with these ingredients!

Curious Bar

We checked out Curious Bar, located at Regent Galleria. It’s a newly opened fine-dining restaurant and bar concept, under the Little Tree Food 小小树林 brand.

Both the interiors and cocktail curations are inspired by Oriental history. The Bloody Mary, for example, is made with pandan-flavoured gin and has notes of lemongrass.

Having the menu on the lollipop was so cute!

The french fries dish is inspired by McDonald’s but fancy. Paired with house-made truffle sauce, it was a perfect accompaniment to the drinks.

Activities at Regent Taipei

Chifeng tour

We’d a 2-hour tour with Chen Jingyun, the neighbourhood chief of Guangneng Village.

I really enjoyed the chief’s positive energy and passion for people. As a 3rd generation neighbourhood leader, she’s well-known by the residents and was greeting them throughout the tour.

It’s a unique experience to see a lesser-seen side of Taipei and learn about the stories of the community while experiencing the charm of blending the old and the new in the alleys.

This tour is set to run from 27 August to 30 September 2023, and is part of the Taipei Urban Expo, promoting Taipei’s urban development.
