Best Time To Visit Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena is a beautiful place to visit all year round. It has an excellent climate year-round, so you can visit any time of year without worry. You can’t go wrong if you visit during any season because it’s always sunny and warm at the beach line year-round!

Some seasons are better than others though depending on what you want to do during your stay in the city. Here’s our guide on when it’s the best time to visit Cartagena.

The region has 2 main seasons – dry (November through April) and wet (May through October). However, over the last few years, there have been significant changes in rainfall patterns with droughts becoming more common as well as occasional flooding due to heavy rains

If you’re looking for the best weather, then your best bet is to visit between December and April when it’s mostly sunny with a few showers every now and then. The temperatures are also nice and mild during this time, averaging around 27 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit). However, keep in mind that Cartagena can get quite crowded during peak season so be prepared for larger crowds at attractions and restaurants.

If you’re not too bothered by the occasional rain shower and would like to save on some money, then May through October is a great time to visit as prices tend to be lower and there are fewer tourists around. Just note that it does rain more often during this and the temperatures can be a bit hotter

The best time to visit Cartagena is during the winter when the weather is a bit cooler. However, if you want to avoid the crowds, try visiting in the spring or fall.

How To Get Around Cartagena, Colombia

Since Cartagena is a very large city, the best way to get around it’s on foot.

For those not up for all of the walking, there are plenty of tuk-tuks and taxis available. The tuk-tuks are more economical than the taxis but they’re also slower because they can only go on the smaller roads.

1. Go To The Old City

Cartagena is a city with a rich history, which makes it one of the must-sees in Colombia. The old city is one of the most well-preserved colonial towns in all of South America. It’s definitely worth a visit!

The old town is home to many beautiful colonial-era buildings which date back to the 16th century when Cartagena was founded. The old city is a great place to relax and take in the sights.

There are many small shops and restaurants where you can find a variety of foods, spices, and crafts as well as local art. There’s a large outdoor market with lots of stalls to explore which features everything from handbags to clothing. 2. Visit Ciudad Perdida – The Lost City

When you visit Ciudad Perdida, a.k.a. the Lost City in Cartagena, Colombia, your senses are inundated with awe-inspiring sights and sounds that’ll make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time to the 16th century when this ancient city was home to a thriving civilization of indigenous tribespeople from the Tayrona people group who lived off of farming and fishing for food sources.

The area is also home to many endangered species such as sloths, monkeys, anteaters and armadillos which can be spotted roaming around during daytime hours but disappear into hidden dens at nightfall when the jungle comes alive with howling monkeys and cackling jaguars hunting prey together under the cover of darkness. 3. See One Of The Oldest Churches In Cartagena

The Spanish built this church in 1580, and have dubbed it the Parish Church of Santa Maria Magdalena.

Once inside, you’ll notice a mix of heavy European colonial style with touches of Afro-Caribbean influence. The interior is adorned with exquisite stained-glass windows which are relics from the wars that took place in the 16th century when Spain occupied this part of South America.

It was built in 1580 by Spanish colonialists during their occupation on Cartagenian soil. The church has a mix between heavy European style coupled with Afro-Caribbean influence manifested through its intricately designed stained glass windows that were brought over.

The church is open to visitors Monday-Saturday from 08:00 am until 06:30 pm, and on Sundays from 09:00 am until 01:00 pm. Admission is free of charge.

You can also check out the Iglesia de Santo Domingo (location), which is one of the oldest churches in Cartagena.

 

4. Visit La Popa Hill

There are a few different boat tours you can take in Cartagena. We opted for the one that took us around the outside of the old city walls. It was really beautiful to see all of the old buildings and fortresses from the water.

11. Parque Nacional Natural Corales del Rosario

Colombia is home to some amazing nature reserves, and Parque Nacional Natural Corales del Rosario is no exception. This popular tourist attraction offers beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and mangroves.
